University is about more than lectures, exams and projects. It is also about meeting friends, finding your favourite spots, attending sports and cultural events, and discovering the city that will become your second home for a few years.

Discover what four university cities of the University of Silesia have to offer: Chorzów, Cieszyn, Katowice and Sosnowiec.

Chorzów

You get off the tram in Chorzów and… what next? After classes, you can go for a walk, visit a museum, relax surrounded by greenery or… take a journey into space.

One of the city’s highlights is Silesian Park – a huge recreational area featuring, among other attractions, the Silesian Zoological Garden, the Silesian Planetarium and Science Park, and the iconic Elka cable car. History and industrial heritage enthusiasts can visit the Museum of Metallurgy.

Chorzów is also home to the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Silesia.

Cieszyn

You get off the train at Cieszyn Uniwersytet railway station, leave the campus and set out to explore the city – one street and one bridge at a time.

The atmospheric Market Square, ul. Głęboka, Cieszyn Venice, the Three Brothers Well and Castle Hill, with its Rotunda, create a unique space for walks and relaxation. From the hill, you can look out over the Olza River and the Czech side of the city, and cross the Friendship Bridge to reach Český Těšín in just a few minutes. You can also check out the replica of the Cieszyn tram or, during your morning run, cross the Sports Bridge into… another country.

Cieszyn is home to the University’s picturesque campus, which houses the Faculty of Arts and Educational Science.

Katowice

Mosaics on the historic workers’ houses of Nikiszowiec, surprising corners of the Culture Zone, meet-ups in the Market Square or on Mariacka Street, and a break at the Three Ponds Valley – Katowice can surprise you with something new every day. For example, a colourful student parade making its way through the city during the Silesian Students’ Festival (Juwenalia Śląskie).

The city combines an academic atmosphere with a rich cultural and entertainment scene, while its industrial heritage blends with modernity and green spaces.

Katowice is home to the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School, the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science and Technology, the Faculty of Law and Administration, and the Faculty of Theology, as well as the University’s Academic Residential Area in Katowice-Ligota.

Sosnowiec

You get off the train at Sosnowiec Główny railway station and… what next? Time to head out and explore!

Along the way, you’ll find historic palaces, a theatre that is older than the city itself, sports facilities, cafés and extensive green spaces. Among the places worth visiting are the Zagłębie Sports Park, Egzotarium, Sielecki Park, Środula Hill, Sielecki Castle, Emma Schoen Palace, Zagłębie Theatre and Stawiki.

Sosnowiec is an important University of Silesia academic centre. It is home to units of the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Natural Sciences, and the Faculty of Science and Technology.
