Online voting is open until 5 November 2026 to select the winners of the POP Science Award at the Silesian Science Festival Katowice. This distinction honours individuals and initiatives that promote science across three nationwide categories (vlog, website/blog, and radio broadcast/podcast) and two regional categories under the common heading—‘think globally, act locally’—with separate categories for those employed at universities and those associated with the Silesian Voivodeship.

Among those nominated for the POP Science 2026 Award, in both the national and regional categories, are individuals associated with the University of Silesia.

Among the USil employees, this year’s nominations in the ‘Think Globally, Act Locally – Silesian Voivodeship (universities)’ category went to:

  • Katarzyna Węsierska, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof. (USil Faculty of Humanities),
  • Aleksandra Wentkowska, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof. (USil Faculty of Law and Administration).

The nominated University of Silesia alumni are:

  • Małgorzata Lachendro, a graduate of Slovonic Studies (Faculty of Humanities) and Journalism and Social Communication (Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Silesia), nominated for the podcast Tam, gdzie rodzi się nauka! [Where science is born!],
  • Łukasz Szwej, a graduate of Political Science and Journalism and Social Communication (Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Silesia), nominated for the podcast  Tam, gdzie rodzi się nauka! [Where science is born!],
  • Przemysław Bartos, a graduate of Environmental Protection (Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Silesia), nominated in the ‘Think Globally, Act Locally’ category – Silesian Voivodeship,
  • Julia Zając, a graduate of Biomedical Engineering and Material Science and Engineering (Faculty of Science and Technology), nominated in the ‘Think Globally, Act Locally’ category – Silesian Voivodeship.

The Metropolis GZM is a partner of the competition.

We invite you to vote on the Silesian Science Festival website.
