Appointment of the Committee for Equality and Diversity Affairs

The inaugural meeting of the Committee for Equality and Diversity Affairs, established by the Rector of the University of Silesia on 29 December 2022, took place on 2 February.

The Committee consists of representatives of university intervention units, academics, support employees, students and doctoral students, as well as trade unions, accessibility coordinators and individuals involved in the implementation of Gender Equality Plan at the University.

In line with its Statute the Committee is the body monitoring the implementation of equal treatment and diversity rules at the University of Silesia in Katowice, in particular the policy carried out in this respect, including the Gender Equality Plan.

The duties of the Committee especially include: monitoring the implementation of equality policy, raising the awareness of equality rules, promoting the problems of equality and diversity in research and education, as well as preparing recommendations and draft actions, including legislative initiatives related to the implementation of the adopted rules, providing opinions on the submitted draft actions, cooperation with the units ̨responding to equality violations and preparing reports in the field of monitoring the implementation of equality and diversity policies.

The work of the Committee will be jointly led by Magdalena Półtorak, PhD (Faculty of Law and Administration) and Adrian Robak, PhD, DLitt, Associate Professor (Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School). The secretary of the Committee is Paweł Ziegler, MA.
