University of Silesia in Katowice will host Prof. Bertram Gawronski from the University of Texas at Austin (USA) who will deliver a lecture and conduct workshops and online consultations regarding psychology and statistics.
About the lecturer
Prof. Bertram Gawronski works at the University of Texas at Austin, which ranks among the top 40 universities in the world. He is one of the most renowned psychologists in the world and has authored more than 150 books and articles. He received numerous awards for his works, and his articles are among the top 1 percent of most cited works in psychology. Detailed information is available at: www.bertramgawronski.com.
In his research, Prof. Bertram Gawronski studies, among other things, how people make moral decisions. He is the co-author of the so-called CNI model, which allows quantifying people’s sensitivity to moral norms and consequences, and whether they tend not to make moral decisions. As a result of the development of the new tool in 2020 and the use of the latest statistical analyses, we can revisit some of the well-known results in psychology and see whether the previous psychological findings can be confirmed or whether we need to refute them.
As it turns out psychopaths, for example, function differently within the scope of moral actions than was previously thought. How? You can find out during the lecture. You won’t find this information in any book.

An open lecture and online workshops will be held as part of the “Moral decision making” project. The project is implemented in cooperation with Mariola Paruzel-Czachura, PhD from the Institute of Psychology of the University of Silesia, who in her research focuses on people’s perception of their own morality (www.mojamoralnosc.pl/en/).
