Golden Lions for the film “Kos” by University of Silesia graduates

Golden Lions 2023, the most important award granted as part of the Gdynia Film Festival, for the film “Kos” was awarded to graduates of the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School: Paweł Maślona (director) and Aneta Hickinbotham (producer).

The list of winners of the main competition, the micro-budget films competition and the short films competition was announced during the ceremony held on Saturday, 23 September 2023 at the Musical Theatre in Gdynia. A total of 16 productions competed for the prize in the main competition. The award was granted to the director of the film “Kos”, Paweł Maślona, and the producers: Leszek Bodzak and Aneta Hickinbotham. Aneta Hickinbotham is a graduate and a lecturer of the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia. The production was also appreciated in other categories – make-up (for which Aneta Brzozowska was honoured), and editing (by Piotr Kmiecik). In turn, in the category of supporting male role, the jury distinguished two actors ex aequo – Robert Więckiewicz (for his role in the film “Kos”) and Tomasz Schuchardt (for his role in the film “Doppelgänger”).

Paweł Maślona – winner of the 2023 Golden Lions is a director and screenwriter, a graduate of political science at the Jagiellonian University, and Film and Television Directing at the Faculty of Radio and Television in Katowice (currently: Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia). His film “Panic attack” is considered one of the most spectacular debuts in recent years, while for his diploma etude “Magma” he received several awards, including the Janusz “Kuba” Morgenstern award “Perspektywa”.
