Volunteering at Victim Help Points

The Career Office, together with the Provincial Police Headquarters in Katowice, has been running the project ‘Volunteering at Help Points for Victims’ since 2005. If you are a student (and you have completed the second year of studies) or a graduate in Law, Psychology, Pedagogy, Social Work, Cognitive Science, Family Studies or Philosophical Counselling and Coaching and you want to help crime victims – our project is addressed to you!

What is ‘Volunteering at Victim Help Points’?

The aim of volunteering at the Help Point is to focus on the needs of victims of violence, often left on their own and completely helpless. It also allows students and graduates to gain experience in the field of psychological and legal assistance. Volunteering is carried out at Victim Help Points and self – help units – these institutions operate in most cities in the Silesian Voivodeship.

Volunteering consists of the following stages:

  • reporting your willingness to participate in volunteering by completing and submitting the form,
  • obligatory participation in two trainings in the field of providing psychological and legal assistance, conducted by employees of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Katowice as well as invited speakers,
  • assigning a volunteer to a selected self – help unit,
  • volunteering on the date agreed with the self – help unit.

What are the benefits of volunteering?

By participating in volunteering, you will:

  • acquire knowledge in the field of psychological and legal assistance to crime victims,
  • gain valuable professional experience and get to know the specifics of work in institutions offering support to crime victims,
  • feel the satisfaction of helping other people!

Who can become a volunteer?

Volunteering is primarily addressed to students (who have completed the second year of studies) and graduates in Law, Psychology, Pedagogy, Social Work, Cognitive Science, Family Studies or Philosophical Counselling and Coaching.

When and how can I volunteer?

The project is organised annually. The first information meetings start at the end of the calendar year (please follow the news on the Career Office’s website), trainings are held in the first quarter of the year, while volunteering can be carried out on a date agreed jointly with a self – help unit.
