What benefits are you entitled to receive?
In accordance with the Act – Law on Higher Education and Science, a student may apply for the following benefits granted from the scholarship fund:
- social allowance,
- allowance for persons with disabilities,
- the Rector’s scholarship,
- financial aid.
Decisions to grant the benefits are made by the Dean or Vice-Dean under the authority of the Rector. The amount of each of the aforementioned benefits may be subject to change in future semesters. In each semester the amount of the benefit shall be determined by the Rector in consultation with the Student Government.
All of the benefits are granted at the request of a student. The application for a benefit – in paper form, together with required documentation – should be submitted to the Dean’s Office by the 10th day of a given month.
Benefits are granted for one semester. If the application is submitted by the 10th day of a given month, the benefit is paid out in the month in which the application was submitted, and if the application is submitted after that date – the benefit is paid out in the following month, without compensation for the previous month.
Benefits are paid monthly, however the benefits for October are paid together with the benefits for November, and the benefits for March – together with the benefits for April.
The benefits are paid out by means of a bank transfer to students’ personal accounts. Students are obliged to submit to the Dean’s Office documents confirming that they have a bank account and stating its number.
The benefits are granted for 1st cycle, 2nd cycle and long-cycle programmes, however, for a maximum period of 6 years. This means that the total period during which a student is entitled to apply for the benefits as part of his/her studies, regardless of the type of studies and the university he/she is attending, is a maximum of 6 years. The counting of the six-year period starts at the beginning of the studies, and if there occurs a break in a student’s academic education, the counting is continued after the resumption of the studies. The six-year period also includes periods of study prior to 1st October 2019.
The benefit is not granted to a student who holds a Master’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, Engineer, Master Engineer or equivalent if the student starts the 1st cycle studies once again. This also applies to professional titles obtained abroad.
A student who is enrolled in more than one programme can apply for the benefit in only one programme of his/her choice. A student is obliged to submit a declaration on not receiving benefits in other programmes.
In the period from 1st October 2019 to 31st December 2023, the doctoral students who commenced doctoral studies before the academic year 2019/2020 may receive all the benefits listed above, i.e. a social allowance, an allowance for persons with disabilities, the Rector’s scholarship and a financial aid. The benefits for doctoral students are governed by the relevant regulations concerning the benefits for 1st cycle, 2nd cycle and long-cycle students.
The amount, award criteria and payment of the benefits for the students of the University of Silesia are governed by Rules and regulations of social benefits for students of the University of Silesia.
