The Ceremonial Opening of the 2026/2027 Academic Year at the Doctoral School of the University of Silesia in Katowice will take place on 1 October 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at spinPLACE, 5 Bankowa Street, Katowice.
The event will mark the official beginning of the new academic year and welcome the next generation of doctoral researchers at the University of Silesia.
The programme will include addresses by representatives of the University of Silesia and the Doctoral School, including:
- Rector of the University of Silesia, Prof. Ryszard Koziołek, PhD, DSc,
- Vice-Rector for Research, Prof. Agnieszka Turska-Kawa, PhD, DSc,
- Dean of the Doctoral School, Prof. Alina Świeściak-Fast, PhD, DSc.
A particularly important moment of the ceremony will be the matriculation of doctoral researchers beginning their doctoral education at the Doctoral School in the 2026/2027 academic year.
The Inaugural Lecture, entitled “AI Engineering: Origins, Diversity of Methods, and the Challenge of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI)”, will be delivered by dr hab. Agnieszka Nowak-Brzezińska, Prof. UŚ.
