The Annual Transform4Europe PhD conference “Societies on the Move: Challenges of Today, Prospects for the Future“ will be hosted by Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski in Sofia on 1-2 April 2025.
Outstanding keynote speakers will deliver visionary and plenary speeches. Doctoral students and early-stage academics from all scientific areas are kindly invited to participate, showcase the results of their research work, engage in discussions with their peers and with established researchers. The participants will receive a certificate jointly issued by the Transform4Europe Alliance universities. The conference papers will be published in Conference Proceedings after scientific review.
The conference will focus on the current and envisaged challenges today’s societies face due to political and economic crises, war, climate change and the rapid advancement of digital technologies and AI in all spheres of life. It is thematically related to the three Transform4Europe focus areas:
- Societal transformation, community building and inclusion
- Digital transformation and smart regions
- Environmental Transformation and sustainability

Selected participants will receive advance payment for subsitance and local commuting costs according to business travels’ rules applied at the University of Silesia (per diem for Bulgaria amounts to 40 EUR), based on a travel form and costs agreement filled in, signed by a participant and approved by the dean of the faculty.
Accomodation and transport will be provided by the University of Silesia. Hotel will be booked and paid for the group of participants. Flight tickects will be purchased in one batch for the entire group through the cooperating travel agency. Upon return, participants must submit the costs settlement and short report.
Selected students will be admitted to participate in the trip on on 31 March – 3 April 2025 in one group. It is not possible to shorten or extend the trip or to leave from/return to a different location than the rest of the group.
