Call for application in the contest for funds for PhD students No. 16 (4/2024) - scientific conferences between 1.01 and 15.03.2025

The Dean of the Doctoral School informs about the opening of the competition for financing scientific, artistic and development activities from the budget of the Doctoral School – only for scientific conferences in the beginning of 2025.

Application procedure:

  • The doctoral student fills in and sends the SRW form, and then confirms the submission of the application by clicking on the link sent by the system. Deadline for closing the system: December 12th (Thursday) at 9:00.

Additional terms of the competition, not included in the Regulations:

  1. No funds exceeding PLN 5,000 will be awarded per doctoral student. If the applications submitted by the one doctoral student extends 5000 PLN in summary, they will be all rejected in total.
  2. A doctoral student should submit several applications if he or she wants to apply for financing of various projects (for a total amount not exceeding PLN 5,000).
  3. The competition introduces a limit of funds that can be applied for in individual categories (not exceeding PLN 5,000 in total):
    1. foreign travels – PLN 5,000
    2. domestic travels – PLN 3,000
  4. Only funds to be spent in the period after the contest and between January 1st and March 15th 2025  may be financed in this competition.
  5. A doctoral student who has submitted an individual research plan should apply for funds planned in the IPB (IRP) budget. Other activities will be financed only in the case of remaining free funds after financing all activities included in IPB (this rule does not apply to 1st-year doctoral students).

Results of the competition No. 15 (3/2024)

106 applications were submitted within the established deadline, including 25 applications that were not submitted correctly or were submitted twice. 8 applications were rejected due to formal reasons

The committee assessed 72 applications. During the assessment, the committee decided to reject 13 applications for substantive reasons (due to low substantive level, low assessment of the project’s purposefulness or impossibility of implementing the project).

Applications accepted for assessment for a total amount of: PLN 119 952.02
After considering all applications, the committee decided to award funds for a total amount of PLN 86 794.61.

Based on the assessments of the committee members and after analyzing the costs presented in the applications, the committee decided to finance 59 applications, some in full and some in part. In accordance with the provisions of the regulations, the Doctoral School publishes information on the funds awarded.

Those who did not receive funding will receive information about the reason in a separate email.

The committee’s decision is final and cannot be appealed.

Application procedure:

  • The doctoral student fills in and sends the SRW form, and then confirms the submission of the application by clicking on the link sent by the system. Deadline for closing the system: October 16 (Wednesday) at 23:59.
  • The doctoral student submits the completed form in an electronic or paper version, identical to the form submitted in the system, to the supervisor for approval.
  • The PhD supervisor informs the Doctoral School about accepting the form by sending an email to the address: szkola.doktorska@us.edu.pl from his or her official account in the @us.edu.pl domain. Term: October 18 (Friday) till the end of the day. Minor changes can be marked in the email or placed on the paper version of the application.
  • The introduction of significant changes to the application by the supervisor results in the obligation for the doctoral student to repeat the above-described procedure. But the system will not be open again – it must be done before.
  • Applications not confirmed by the promoter will not be considered (without requesting supplements).
  • Applications that do not meet any of the formal requirements arising from the regulations or additional conditions listed below will not be considered (without requesting supplementation or correction).
  • The committee’s decision is final and cannot be appealed against.

Other activities will be financed only in the case of remaining free funds after financing all activities included in IPB (this rule does not apply to 1st-year doctoral students).

How to expand funds:

  1. Funds are granted until the end of the 2024 calendar year – no expenses will be settled after the end of the year.
  2. There is no possibility of transferring funds – funds granted for a given purpose can only be spent on it, with minor shifts (e.g. departure date).
  3. Path of expenditure:
    • expenditure are planned in the doctoral school office or in the unit supporting the research team to which the doctoral student belongs
    • application must be registered in the Doctoral School or International Environmental Doctoral School office (for DS: marta.dymanska@us.edu.pl, magdalena.winiarska@us.edu.pl, Bankowa 14, room 409), which in each case takes over the further path of the application
    • application approved by the Student Service Center and signed by the Chancellor

The Dean of the Doctoral School informs about the opening of the competition for internationalization of activities of doctoral students.

Basic information:

Application procedure:

  • The doctoral student fills in and sends the form, and then confirms the submission of the application by clicking on the link sent by the system. Deadline for closing the system: March 11th (Monday) at 12:00.
  • The doctoral student submits the completed form in an electronic or paper version, identical to the form submitted in the system, to the supervisor for approval.
  • The PhD supervisor informs the Doctoral School about accepting the form by sending an email to the address: szkola.doktorska@us.edu.pl from his or her official account in the @us.edu.pl domain. Term: March 12th (Tuesday) till the end of the day. Minor changes can be marked in the email or placed on the paper version of the application.
  • The introduction of significant changes to the application by the supervisor results in the obligation for the doctoral student to repeat the above-described procedure. But the system will not be open again – it must be done before.
  • Applications not confirmed by the supervisor will not be considered.

  3. The competition may only finance funds to be spent in the period after the competition results, in compliance with the rules applicable at the University of Silesia in Katowice.
  4. The competition may only include funds to be spent in the calendar year 2024. Applications that the committee considers impossible to implement will be rejected.

Results of the competition No. 14 (2/2024)

48 applications were submitted within the established deadline, including 6 applications that were not submitted correctly or were submitted twice.

The committee assessed 42 applications. During the assessment, the committee decided to reject 12 applications for substantive reasons (due to low substantive level, low assessment of the project’s purposefulness or impossibility of implementing the project).

Applications submitted for a total amount of: PLN 193,033.81 (excluding duplicates).
Applications accepted for assessment for a total amount of: PLN 193,033.81
After considering all applications, the committee decided to award funds for a total amount of PLN 47,998.02.

Based on the assessments of the committee members and after analyzing the costs presented in the applications, the committee decided to finance 16 applications, some in full and some in part. In accordance with the provisions of the regulations, the Doctoral School publishes information on the funds awarded.

Those who did not receive funding will receive information about the reason (number of points awarded) in a separate email.

The committee’s decision is final and cannot be appealed.

Results of the competition No. 13 (1/2024)

The competition was conducted on the basis of the Regulations on the expenditure of funds for the scientific activities of doctoral students of the Doctoral School introduced by Order No. 1/2024 of the Dean of the Doctoral School. On February 14, 2024, the competition committee appointed by the Dean of the Doctoral School determined the division of funds in the competition.

135 applications were received within the set deadline, including 17 applications that were not sent correctly or were sent twice.

The committee assessed 118 applications. During the evaluation, the committee decided to reject 25 applications for substantive reasons (due to low substantive level, due to low assessment of the project’s purposefulness or due to the impossibility of implementing the project).

Applications were submitted for a total amount of PLN 335,817.93 (not including duplicates).

After considering all applications, the committee decided to award funds in the total amount of PLN 239,024.73.

Based on the assessments of the committee members and after analyzing the costs presented in the applications, the committee decided to finance 93 applications, some in full and some in part. In accordance with the provisions of the above-mentioned regulations, the Doctoral School publishes information about the funds granted.

People who did not receive funding will receive information about the reason (number of points awarded) in a separate e-mail.

The committee’s decision is final and cannot be appealed against.
