The project VINCI Dive into Science – Interdisciplinary International Silesian Summer School.
About the Summer School
Students from EU and non-EU countries who have completed at least one year of first-cycle studies or are in the process of second-cycle studies (computer science or chemical sciences or physical sciences or materials engineering) can apply to the VINCI School. The School is FREE and each of the 40 participants will receive a scholarship of PLN 5 000.00. Students will stay three weeks at the University of Silesia in Poland. The Faculty of Science and Technology conducts the School with the support of four Scientific institutes: Institute of Chemistry, Institute of Physics, Institute of Computer Science, Institute of Materials Engineering.
The first edition of the Summer School was held on 4-22 July 2022 and was a complete success. In the second (last) edition, planned from 03/07/2023 to 21/07/2023, 22 students will be recruited. The VINCI Summer School Programme offers basic and advanced physics, chemistry, computer science, and materials engineering courses. Summer Students will attend a series of lectures specially prepared for them. Moreover, School gives a unique opportunity to join in the day-to-day work of research teams participating in experiments at the Faculty of Science and Technology University of Silesia. The courses on the polish culture in the School of Polish Language and Culture and two excurses are also part of the program. Students are required to prepare a short report (presentation) on their work at the Faculty of Science and Technology University of Silesia, which should be presented at the end of their stay during the closing seminar.

- The project primarily involves organising an international summer school for the best students from around the world.
- The intensive 3-week programme includes modules with introductory classes and workshops during which students participate in scientific research, lectures by foreign lecturers, seminars, classes promoting Polish culture as well as educational and scientific opportunities.
- Students from EU and non-EU countries who have completed at least 1 year of 1st cycle studies or are in the process of completing 2nd cycle studies (in computer science, chemical sciences, physical sciences, or materials engineering) can apply to the VINCI School.
- 2 editions, July 2022 & July 2023, 40 participants, 76 hours of teaching: lectures and workshops, 5 hours of classes on Polish language and culture, 2 sightseeing tours, 5,000 PLN scholarship, Silesia – a 3-week stay in one of the most important regions of Poland
Benefits
- Scholarship: Each of the 40 participants of the School will receive a scholarship of PLN 5,000.
- Accommodation support – a possibility of living on preferential price terms in a modern BaseCamp facility near the centre of Katowice. The offer includes single rooms with a bathroom and access to the kitchen, gym, cinema room, bicycle rental, and study spaces. Students will also be able to use the underground garage and laundry facilities. The entire facility has free internet access.
- Attractive excursions promoting both Polish culture and Polish science and research opportunities.
Programme
The School’s programme includes 76 hours of classes in English with the following elements:
- Lectures (18 x 45 min). Depending on the target group’s profile and research interests, classes will be dedicated to topics related to the discipline chosen by the student: computer science, chemistry, physics, or materials science and engineering.
- Specialist workshops in research teams (30 x 45 min). Each candidate will declare their willingness to cooperate with a given research team at the recruitment stage by selecting the appropriate topic. These will be stationary classes carried out in modern research laboratories.
- Online lectures will be conducted by experienced foreign professors specialising in the proposed topics (8 x 45 min).
- Integration seminars and seminars present the educational and research potential of the institutes.
- Classes popularising Polish culture (5x 45min).
- Attractive excursions promoting both Polish culture and Polish science and research opportunities
