This year’s motto of the World Water Day is: “Groundwater – make visible what is invisible”. The Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Silesia educates specialists in the field of hydrogeology, and the employees have been conducting scientific research in international research teams for many years.
The following video summarises the research of the three-year DEEPWATER-CE project carried out under the Interreg Central Europe programme. Researchers are working on developing a comprehensive and integrated approach to implementing solutions for additional groundwater recharge in order to increase their quantitative and qualitative resources.
The DEEPWATER-CE project is implemented by employees from the University of Silesia in Katowice. The team leader is dr Sławomir Sitek, PhD, a hydrogeologist. Scientists conducted, inter alia, research on the drinking water intake in Tarnów, catching a shallow aquifer, additionally fed with water from infiltration ditches in the immediate vicinity of the industrial zone.
Detailed results of the DEEPWATER-CE project are included in the report that can be downloaded from the project website.
