We encourage all employees of the University of Silesia to submit initiatives for the City-Region-Academia programme, implemented as part of the celebrations of the European City of Science Katowice 2024.

The submitted projects will be included in the ECSK 2024 calendar of events. Admission process for the programme has been ongoing since October 2023, and from now on it will also be possible to apply for project funding (basic mode up to PLN 10,000). The University of Silesia will allocate PLN 750,000 to the programme from funds allocated as part of a subsidy from the Marshal’s Office of the Silesian Voivodeship for the implementation of ECSK 2024 tasks.

Deadlines for considering applications for funding: until 20 February, 20 March, 20 June and 5 October.

The co-financing regulations are available in the University of Silesia legal acts database.

About the programme

City-Region-Academia is one of the thematic streams implemented under the first pillar – the programme of celebrations of the European City of Science Katowice 2024. The universities of the Academic Consortium Katowice – City Of Science are guided by common financing principles. At the University of Silesia, funding opportunities will be available to:

  • initiatives resulting from the statutory activities of the University of Silesia, such as: scientific and popular science events, conferences, congresses, music and cultural events, festivals, social, recreational and other initiatives, including events and initiatives that are undertaken periodically;
  • special projects: individual or team ideas of USil employees that are consistent with the programme assumptions of ECSK 2024, in particular those contributing to the transformation of the region and strengthening the recognition of the University of Silesia as a scientific centre on the international arena. New initiatives proposed in connection with the awarding of the ECSK 2024 title are treated as special projects. It is preferred that they are innovative and interdisciplinary in nature, have a large scope and are implemented in cooperation (e.g. inter-faculty, with the socio-economic environment or the Academic Consortium Katowice City of Science).

The rules for submitting initiatives resulting from the statutory activities of the University of Silesia can be found on the ECSK 2024 website. You can submitted them by completing the registration form.

In the case of special projects, the concept should be sent along with a preliminary cost estimate to the following address: emn@us.edu.pl with the note ‘ECSK 2024 Special Project’.

We encourage you to disseminate information about the possibility of submitting events to the ECSK 2024 calendar and engaging students and PhD students of the University of Silesia to implement initiatives and projects.
