About the Award
Every year, the Professor Józef Pieter Award honours an outstanding teacher who works in a primary or secondary school in the Silesian Voivodeship. It is awarded to a teacher whose work demonstrates the fundamental importance of education for the development of children and youth; who effectively shares their love for knowledge, combines the qualities and skills of an outstanding subject teacher and a committed educator; who is open, tolerant and fair. Thus, they present the attitude and values close to the patron of the award, Professor Józef Pieter.
Applications for the award may be made by an individual, group of people or institution via the application form available until 31 March 2023.
The laureate is selected by the jury of the Professor Józef Pieter Award and announced during the Award gala on 14 October each year. The winner receives a statuette and PLN 20,000.
About the patron of the Award
Prof. Józef Pieter (1904–1989)
As a psychologist, pedagogue and philosopher, Prof. Józef Pieter devoted his life and work to researching psychology and the mechanisms of teaching and learning, comparing pedagogical systems, the process of reasoning, as well as the methodology and organisation of scientific work.
Born in Ochaby, in the rural part of Cieszyn, Prof. Józef Pieter was strongly attached to his native Silesia, where he was a lecturer for over 50 years and is considered one of the founding fathers of the University of Silesia.
