[ONLINE] 2020 Art & Design Competition award gala

The 2020 Art & Design Competition award gala organised under the Sino-Polish University Consortium (SPUC) comprising 27 universities from China and Poland took place on 5 July 2021 (Monday) at 10 a.m. The host of the 2nd edition of the competition was the Silesian University of Technology in cooperation with the University of Silesia.

In the competition could participate only students and employees of the universities of the consortium. The topic of the 2nd edition was interpretation and references to the traditional and contemporary culture of the partner countries. The competition is a form of a dialogue between the universities in China and Poland. It promotes bilateral cooperation and contributes to a mutual understanding of both cultures and traditions.

The participants competed in three categories:

  • spatial – interiors and objects inspired with traditional Polish and Chinese architecture;
  • artistic – paintings, sculptures, and photographs with links to the historical and cultural heritage of China and Poland;
  • mixed – interdisciplinary works combining various forms.

Artists could submit their works, either individual or group, until 30 January 2020. In total, 104 works have been submitted. The representative of the University of Silesia in the jury was Aneta Borowik, PhD, Associate Professor from the Faculty of Humanities.

The transmission of the event was available on the Silesian University of Technology’s YouTube Channel. The gallery of all works will be available on the competition’s website.

Major awards were given to:

Zang Shi Wei (Tianjin University of Technology) – 1st place;
QiLong Li oraz Qingqing Zhao (Chongqing Jiaotong University) – 2nd place;
Piotr Idzi (Tadeusz Kościuszko University of Technology) – 3rd place;
Daria Kowalczyk (University of Silesia) – 3rd place.

Apart from the winners, the works of seven people were honourably mentioned. Among them was Prof. Adam Czech, Associate Professor from the Institute of Fine Arts.

The special award of the Rector of the University of Silesia was given to Qi Feng Zhang (North China University of Technology).
