30th Academic Concert on University of Silesia Celebration

On the occasion of the 58th anniversary of the establishment of the University of Silesia, Prof. Ryszard Koziołek, the Rector of the University of Silesia, invites you to the Musical Landscapes Academic Concert, which will take place on Friday 12 June 2026 at 6.00 p.m. in the concert hall of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice..

The concert will be performed by the Cieszyn Brass Band of the University of Silesia, which will present a varied repertoire ranging from classical music through film scores to light music. The musical feast will also feature vocalists—students and staff of the Institute of Music of the Faculty of Arts and Educational Science of the University of Silesia. The ensemble will comprise staff from the Institute, students, pupils from the I. Paderewski State Primary and Secondary Music School in Cieszyn, and guest musicians who regularly support the Band during public performances.

During the 30th Academic Concert, you will have the opportunity to hear the world premiere of the piece Gaia by Karol Pyka, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof.

The programme of the event includes, amongst other things:

  • A speech by Prof. Ryszard Koziołek, Rector of the University of Silesia
  • Award ceremony
  • Academic lecture
  • Concert: Musical Landscapes:
    1. Aurora Borealis – music by Rossano Galante (a piece about the Northern Lights)
    2. Marche Militaire Op. 51 No. 1 – music by Franz Schubert, arranged by Robert Mac Leod
    3. Festival Music – music by Kurt Gäble (a brass band classic)
    4. Gaia – music by Karol Pyka (a musical interpretation of the figure of the goddess Gaia)
    5. Medley In the Old CinemaJust Like in the Old Days – music by Henryk Wars, arranged by Karol Pyka
    6. The Phantom of the Opera – music by Andrew Lloyd Weber, arranged by Lorenzo Bocci
    7. It Don’t Mean a Thing – music by Duke Ellington, arranged by Dick Ravenal
    8. Lipka – music and lyrics: traditional, arr. Karol Pyka, sung by Kamila Szwed
    9. Czas nas uczy pogody (Time Teaches Us Serenity)music: Krzesimir Dębski, lyrics: Jacek Cygan, arr. Karol Pyka, sung by Wiktoria Plata
    10. Byłaś serca biciem (You Were the Beat of My Heart)music by Jerzy Dobrzyński, lyrics by Zbigniew Książek, sung by Bartosz Listwan
    11. Finale: Radość najpiękniejszych lat (The Joy of the Most Beautiful Years) – music by Jarosław Kukulski, lyrics by Wojciech Jagielski and Janusz Kondratowicz, sung by Wiktoria Plata, Kamila Szwed and Bartosz Listwan

The first part of the concert will be hosted by Maria Magdalena Jeziorowska – a student – and Maciej Idczak – a graduate of the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School.

The event will be accompanied by visualisations created by Witold Suchoń from the Faculty of Arts and Educational Science of the University of Silesia.

Those wishing to attend the concert are asked to confirm their attendance via the registration form. Due to limited seating, bookings will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

The concert will be recorded and published on the University of Silesia’s YouTube channel.
