Recently, the University of Silesia in Katowice has established formal cooperation with several GZM municipalities (including Bytom, Gliwice and Ruda Śląsk) related to joint actions in the COVID-19 risk situation.

The cooperation concerns implementation of research intended to provide a reliable diagnosis of social situation during the coronavirus threat. The main goal of the research is to recognise the implemented solutions and analyse the needs and issues faced by the social care and foster custody system in the current pandemic situation. The offered diagnosis also focuses on the methods that municipalities use to ensure the implementation of social care tasks and solution of the existing problems and difficulties. Not only can recognition of these obstacles and methods to deal with them help better handle the current difficult situation, but also prepare us for similar scenarios in the future.

The research will be conducted by experienced scientists from the Institute of Pedagogy, and, if necessary, with participation of specialists in other related disciplines. The research will result in creating clear and communicative reports containing practical recommendations concerning reasonable solutions, supplemented by the offer of potential trainings or further support.

Currently, agreements for cooperation with further municipalities interested in implementation and results of research conducted by the Institute of Pedagogy are being processed.

The cooperation has been initiated by Prof. Ewa Jarosz, Vice-Rector for Staff Development, whereas the coordinators for cooperation with the environment include: Dr Edyta Nieduziak and Dr Agnieszka Majewska-Kafarowska from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Silesia.
