University of Silesia in Katowice

What distinguishes the University of Silesia in Katowice from amongst other universities is our wholistic perception of a student. We are conscious that studies are a unique time in our life – the time of entering the adulthood and thus, assuming new roles, the time often related to leaving the family home and starting to build one’s own identity. This carries along many different challenges and may become the source of stress. That is why, as a school, we strive for our students to be able to turn to someone for help in such crisis situations.

We have for many years run a Student Service wiecjestem.us.edu.pl, where each visitor may find consultations with psychologists we publish containing data regarding personal development, methods of copying with stress, good organization and establishing goals etc. In a situation of lack of skills or searching for new solutions our students should be able to use the contents based on the latest knowledge and that are conceptually valid.

For several years now we have been realizing social campaigns (such as What stresses us out? or Student cafe of possibilities). Their goal is the development of knowledge among our students in specific areas that impact their mental health. So far campaigns concerned mental health hygiene, copying with stress or shaping soft competencies.

For over ten years the students of the University of Silesia in Katowice have had the possibility of attending free psychological consultations. We encourage our listeners, in a situation of increased stress, a temporary crisis or experiencing other difficulties, to use the assistance of professional experts at the university or outside of it. Consultations are entirely free of charge and persons who study at the University and wish to make an appointment with a psychologist are asked to contact them at(psycholog@us.edu.pl or for students from Cieszyn – at psycholog.cieszyn@us.edu.pl).
