Joint dual degree doctoral program from the University of Silesia in Katowice and the Sapienza University in Rome
Doctoral School of the University of Silesia in Katowice announces the opening of the admission for the joint dual degree doctoral program of the University of Silesia in Katowice and the Sapienza University in Rome in the field of literary studies, cultural studies, linguistics, and translation studies in English. The interview will be held in English on November 12, 2024, at 13.00 on the Teams platform.
By October 8, 2024, Candidates are required to:
1) demonstrate their proficiency in English at the C1 level by submitting ONE of the following documents: a) an MA diploma in English, b) a CAE certificate or an analogous certificate confirming the Candidate’s command of English at the C1 level, or c) a diploma of graduation from a recognized foreign university in which the language of instruction is English;
2) fill the application form to provide a description of the dual degree project and a list of academic achievements achievements-Sapienza Research-project-SAPIENZA
3) submit the supervisor’s letter of reference in support of the Candidate’s application to join the dual degree program.
On November 12, 2024, the Candidates will be interviewed and assessed by an examination committee chaired by the discipline coordinator for humanities, theology and arts and composed of four full or associate professors (“professore ordinario” or “professore associato” on the Italian side and “doktor habilitowany” or “profesor tytularny” on the Polish side), representing the disciplines of English Literary and Cultural Studies as well as Translation Studies and Linguistics: three examiners shall represent the University of Silesia and one shall represent the Sapienza University in Rome.
The joint program will be realized in the co-tutelle formula, upon the conclusion of relevant agreements between the two Universities. In order to obtain a doctoral diploma from the University of Silesia in Katowice and the Sapienza University in Rome, in the course of the program the doctoral student is required to spend at least 5 months at the partner University under the academic supervision of the co-director of the thesis. The participation in the program is free of charge, but the costs related to the stay at the partner University must covered by the doctoral student himself or herself (the costs of transportation, accommodation, the costs of health insurance required by the partner, and third party liability insurance costs). At the same time, the doctoral student may apply for funds from the PROM program, make use of the Erasmus Plus scholarship offer, and other forms of support available at the University of Silesia.
The PhD candidate writes one thesis in English and there will be one public defense in that language.
