Thursday, October 14 – November 18, 8:00-9:30 AM

stationary classes, in English

Short descripion

This mini-course will bring some selected methods and subjects in contemporary computer algebra. In particular, I plan to present the applications of Hasse local-global principle in solving algorithmic problems in quadratic forms theory, representation of elements as sums of squares, construction of singular elements, construction of anisotropic part of a form and computation of isotropic vectors.

November 26 (Friday) 9.00 – 12.45, room B17 (Jagiellońska 28, Katowice)

November 29 (Monday) 10.00 – 13.45, room B206 (Jagiellońska 28, Katowice)

stationary classes, in English

Short description

The practical aims at training of in vivo 3D imaging of a biological (plant) material with using laser confocal microscopy. This technique allows to study the structure and geometry of cells/tissues/organs, cell growth, gene expression, and dynamics of cellular processes, for example cytoskeleton rearrangement. Also, the practical involves analysis of confocal images with using available computer programs.

Thursday, October 14 – November 18 listopada, 9:45-11:15

stationary classes (Chorzów, SMCEBI, room F/2/04+05), in English

Short description

The classes are aimed at learning about methods of materials testing using techniques based on X-ray diffraction and basic techniques of electron microscopy. The subjects introduce the phenomena, principles of operation and construction of research equipment as well as the interpretation of the obtained results.

Tools and methods

Classes are conducted in the form of lectures, demonstrations and a discussion panel. Participants will learn the methods of phase identification and determining the structure of the material.

Tuesday November 16 and Thursday November 18 listopada, godz. 11:30-15:15

stationary classes (Katowice), in English

Short description

The global need for modern and innovative plant protection agents, drugs and their carriers lead to the development of new chemicals and formulations. Their release for sale must be preceded by standard toxicological tests, using model organisms. During the classes, the participants will get acquainted with the types of tests, conditions for selection of an adequate method, the possibilities of an alternative approach, and methods of calculating ecotoxicological indicators. Type of classes: workshop (students design the experiments themselves after a theoretical introduction). Classes are dedicated primarily to biology and chemistry students.
