The Dean of the Doctoral School informs about the opening of the competition for financing scientific, artistic and development activities from the budget of the Doctoral School – only for scientific conferences in January and February 2024.

Application procedure:

• The doctoral student fills in and sends the SRW form, and then confirms the submission of the application by clicking on the link sent by the system. Deadline for closing the system: November 27th (Monday) at 9:00.
• The doctoral student submits the completed form in an electronic or paper version, identical to the form submitted in the system, to the supervisor for approval.
• For PhD students of the 1st year, who does not have a PhD supervisor yet, it may be done by the supervisor declared during admission.
• The PhD supervisor informs the Doctoral School about accepting the form by sending an email to the address: szkola.doktorska@us.edu.pl from his or her official account in the @us.edu.pl domain. Term: November 27th (Monday) till the end of the day. Minor changes can be marked in the email or placed on the paper version of the application.
• The introduction of significant changes to the application by the supervisor results in the obligation for the doctoral student to repeat the above-described procedure. But the system will not be open again – it must be done before.
• Applications not confirmed by the supervisor will not be considered.

Additional terms of the competition, not included in the Regulations:

1. No funds exceeding PLN 5,000 will be awarded per doctoral student. If the applications submitted by the one doctoral student extends 5000 PLN in summary, they will be all rejected in total.
2. A doctoral student should submit several applications if he or she wants to apply for financing of various projects (for a total amount not exceeding PLN 5,000).
3. The competition introduces a limit of funds that can be applied for in individual categories (not exceeding PLN 5,000 in total):
   1. foreign conferences – PLN 5,000
   2. domestic confrences – PLN 3,000
4. Funds may only be spent on sceintific conferences which take place in January or Fabruary 2024. All funds may be spend only according to the  rules in force at the University of Silesia in Katowice.
5. A doctoral student who has submitted an individual research plan should apply for funds planned in the IPB (IRP) budget. Other activities will be financed only in the case of remaining free funds after financing all activities included in IPB (this rule does not apply to 1st-year doctoral students).

The competition was conducted on the basis of the Regulations on spending funds for the scientific activity of doctoral students of the Doctoral School, introduced by Order No. 2/2023 of the Dean of the Doctoral School. On October 27th, 2023, the competition committee appointed by the Dean of the Doctoral School determined the distribution of funds in the competition.
77 applications were received within the set deadline, including 7 applications not sent correctly or sent twice and 6 applications rejected at the stage of formal evaluation (due to exceeding the total amount applied for PLN 5,000 or the amount set for a given category of costs or due to the fact, that the doctoral student hasn’t accounted for the funds awarded in previous competitions).
The committee evaluated 63 applications. In the course of the assessment, the commission decided to reject 9 applications for substantive reasons.

Data:

• Applications were submitted for a total amount of PLN 159,480.40
• Applications for the total amount of PLN 139,033.86 were admitted for evaluation.
• After examining all applications, the committee decided to allocate funds for the total amount of PLN 114,270.20.

Based on the assessments of the committee members and after analyzing the costs presented in the applications, the committee decided to finance 54 proposals, some in full and some in part. Pursuant to the provisions of the above of Regulations, the Doctoral School publishes information on the funds awarded.

Persons who did not receive funding will receive information about the reason (number of points awarded) in a separate e-mail within two weeks of the competition’s settlement.

The committee’s decision is final and not subject to appeal.

The earliest date for implementation is November 3rd, and in the case of foreign travel – at least 3 weeks after the competition is resolved.
5. Only funds to be spent in the calendar year 2023 may be awarded in the competition. Applications that the commission considers impossible to be realized will be rejected.
6. A doctoral student who has submitted an individual research plan should apply for funds planned in the IPB (IRP) budget. Other activities will be financed only in the case of remaining free funds after financing all activities included in IPB (this rule does not apply to 1st-year doctoral students).

The competition was conducted on the basis of the Regulations on spending funds for the scientific activity of doctoral students of the Doctoral School, introduced by Order No. 2/2023 of the Dean of the Doctoral School. On May 19, 2023, the competition committee appointed by the Dean of the Doctoral School determined the distribution of funds in the competition.
148 applications were received within the set deadline, including 29 applications not sent correctly or sent twice and 8 applications rejected at the stage of formal evaluation (due to exceeding the total amount applied for PLN 5,000 or the amount set for a given category of costs).
The committee evaluated 109 applications. In the course of the assessment, the commission decided to reject 24 applications for substantive reasons, including 3 due to a low substantive level, 18 due to a low assessment of the project’s desirability and 11 due to the impossibility of implementing the project (some applications were questioned in several categories).

Data:

• Applications were submitted for a total amount of PLN 298,220.18
• Applications for the total amount of PLN 270,722.34 were admitted for evaluation.
• Funds to be distributed: PLN 93,800.
• After examining all applications, the committee decided to allocate funds for the total amount of PLN 93,351.01.

Based on the assessments of the committee members and after analyzing the costs presented in the applications, the committee decided to finance 38 proposals, some in full and some in part. Due to the lack of sufficient funds, 47 applications that passed the formal and substantive assessment, but received too few points, will not be funded. Pursuant to the provisions of the above of Regulations, the Doctoral School publishes information on the funds awarded.

Persons who did not receive funding will receive information about the reason (number of points awarded) in a separate e-mail within two weeks of the competition’s settlement.

The committee’s decision is final and not subject to appeal.

166 applications were received within the set deadline, including 22 applications not sent correctly or sent twice and 18 applications rejected at the stage of formal evaluation (1 due to lack of confirmation by the supervisor and 17 due to exceeding the total amount applied for PLN 5,000 or the amount set for a given category of costs).
The committee evaluated 126 applications. In the course of the assessment, the commission decided to reject 20 applications for substantive reasons, including 4 due to a low substantive level, 11 due to a low assessment of the project’s desirability and 15 due to the impossibility of implementing the project (some applications were questioned in several categories).

• Applications were submitted for a total amount of PLN 451,255.
• Applications for the total amount of PLN 399,957.93 were admitted for evaluation.
• Funds to be distributed: PLN 180,000.
• After examining all applications, the committee decided to allocate funds for the total amount of PLN 201,066.61.

Based on the assessments of the committee members and after analyzing the costs presented in the applications, the committee decided to finance 69 proposals, some in full and some in part. Due to the lack of sufficient funds, 37 applications that passed the formal and substantive assessment, but received too few points, will not be funded.
