For whom: all doctoral students of the Doctoral School
Scope of support: every semester – financing for 5 cycles 10 hours each
Method of distribution of the support: together with registration for other tutoring sessions before the beginning of each academic year; in case of greater demand, coordinators at the Doctoral School establish a ranking and select the 5 most interesting proposals for the semester; the rest are financed from the university budget. In 2023/2024, registration during the year – only tutors with whom cooperation has already been established.
Schedule:
1. Summer 2023/2024: open call 14.03.2024 – finishing call 29.03.2024
2. Winter and summer 2024/2025 – open call 28.03.2024 – finishing call 24.05.2024
For whom: doctoral students of both doctoral schools who are involved in international cooperation, not earlier than after the first year of education
Scope of support: 6 x 30 days of an internship in a foreign academic institution. Lump sum for travel and living costs
Method of distribution of the support: Contest is announced ones a year. Assessment criteria:
- scope of cooperation (joint and double degree and participation in international projects are promoted)
- support in preparing a doctoral dissertation
- influence on the development of the discipline
- influence on the development of cooperation between scientific units
- probability of achieving the goals
Schedule:
For whom: all doctoral students of both doctoral schools
Scope of support: funds for 10 proofreadings / year
Method of distribution of the support: Doctoral student who already finished preparing an article fills out the application form and delivers it to the STER office. The STER committee asses whether the application meets the following conditions:
- publication is ready to be sent for proofreading
- an article will be sent to an internationally recognized journal with at least 70 / 140 points (HS / NS) on the Ministerial list
- the doctoral student is the only or leading author
- the doctoral student declares, that an article will be affiliated with the University of Silesia
Schedule:
For whom: all doctoral students of both doctoral schools
Scope of support: funds for about 5 articles (2000 EUR each)/ year
Method of distribution of the support: a doctoral student who has already finished preparing an article fills out the application form and delivers it to the STER office. The STER committee asses if the application meets the following conditions:
- the article is accepted by a journal (after reviews)
- the article will be published in an internationally recognized journal with at least 70 / 140 points (HS / NS) on the Ministerial list
- the doctoral student is the only or leading author
- the doctoral student declares, that an article will be affiliated with the University of Silesia
Schedule:
For whom: foreign doctoral students during their 2nd year of education; a foreign doctoral student = a doctoral student with other than Polish citizenship or who finished a Master’s degree at a foreign university (who studied abroad).
The scholarship may only be awarded to doctoral students who indicate Poland as their current place of residence.
Scope of support: 9 scholarships for each academic year
- in 2023/2024 – 9 months
- in 2024/2025 – 12 months
- in 2025/2026 – 12 months
Method of distribution of the support: One competition at the beginning of each academic year (in 2023/2024 till the end of the academic year).

- planned popular science activities
Schedule: Open call in 2024: July 31-September 2
For whom: doctoral students of both doctoral schools during their 2nd year of education, who are conducting their doctoral project in an international cooperation, especially in joint or double degree
The scholarship may only be awarded to doctoral students who indicate Poland as their current place of residence.
Scope of support: 6 scholarships for each academic year

The activity is financed by the National Agency for Academic Exchange under the STER programme – internationalisation of doctoral schools
