Readmission

Remember – being dismissed from studies does not have to be the end! You can go back to your degree programme and finish your studies. Here is some information on this:

  1. You can resume only the degree programme where you have completed:
    1. the first year – in reference to 1st cycle studies or long-cycle studies;
    2. the first semester – in reference to 2nd cycle studies.
  2. You can resume your studies only within 3 years from the the day of the end of the failed semester. This is very important – it’s not about the day of being dismissed from studies!

Example: John was dismissed from studies by decision of 15 November 2020. The reason was the failure to complete the summer semester of the 2019/2020. This semester ended on 30 September 2020. Therefore, John has the right to resume his studies only until 30 September 2023 (3 years from the end of the semester), and not until 15 November 2023.

  1. You can apply for readmission in an request submitted to the dean of the relevant faculty. The dean will decide on your case.
  2. When resuming your studies, you will start them in the semester following the last fully completed semester. If you were conditionally enrolled for a semester, it will not be considered as passed!

Example: John was dismissed from studies due to failing the 4th semester of studies (he did not pass any of the five exams).  But he had problems before. In the 2nd semester he failed the microeconomics exam, so he received conditional pass for the 3rd semester.

When calculating how many semesters of studies John has completed, we do not include the 3rd semester, because John was enrolled in it conditionally.

We therefore assume that John has completed 2 semesters and will resume his studies in the next semester, i.e. in the 3rd semester.

  1. If the University of Silesia no longer offers degree programme which you were dismissed from, you cannot resume your studies.

If a given level, form, profile or specialisation of studies is no longer offered, contact the relevant dean’s office to determine whether you can resume your studies.

  1. If the curriculum of the degree programme has changed, the dean will appoint you differences in curriculum which you need to get credit for.
  2. You can resume your studies through readmission only once! So if you are dismissed again after readmission, you will not be reapproved to resume unless:
    • the second dismissal will be related only to failure to complete the diploma module (failure to submit a diploma thesis);
    • the Rector comes to the conclusion that you are a special case.
  3. You will have to pay an appropriate fee for repeating the classes for which you were dismissed from studies. More information on fees can be found at: https://us.edu.pl/kandydat/en/rekrutacja-na-studia-krok-po-kroku/.
