Young Scientist Support

Scientific potential of students is the reason of utmost pride and strength of the University of Silesia in Katowice; therefore, the Student Service Centre continuously expands the tools which are to assist the young scientists in their scientific development as well as in the planning and managing their scientific careers.

While focusing on the most talented students who realize individual research or artistic projects at the university we have since 2017  been realizing the programme of the University of Silesia Rector’s Grants for the best students. The grant programme gives the possibility of realizing ambitious research projects, cooperation in scientific teams, publications of research results or establishing contacts with international scientific environment. The grants are realized with the support of the scientific guardian selected by the student who is an academic teacher holding at least doctoral degree.

So far we have been able to realize two editions of the contest in which we co-financed more than 100 grants for the total amount of almost half a million zloty. In the current academic year we are planning to launch yet another programme edition. A novelty is the fact that it will be financed from the resources of the Student Self-Government and the Rector’s reserves. Works are currently under way to establish he contest formula and schedule; thus, we encourage everyone to follow the information in the social media of the University of Silesia and on the website grantyrektora.us.edu.pl.

In the new academic year, the Office for Student Activity commenced its activities by the Student Service Office whereby young scientists may obtain conceptual and administrative support while carrying out initiatives and scientific research on all stages: from the moment of writing a grant application through realization until project settlement.

We encourage everyone to follow the tab “scientific activity” on the website us.edu.pl/student/dzialalnosc-naukowa, in which one may find detailed information regarding current research programmes, scientific contests and other initiatives directed at students.

We know how difficult the beginnings may seem, thus if you are looking for support in writing your first project or assistance in filling out the grant application form, come visit our office – we will be happy to help you.

We are proud of each, smallest success of our students, therefore, if there is anything you would like to brag about, tell us in person or write to us about, you are welcome to do so and we can pass this message on our website devoted to scientific activity.
