  • Accessibility of the entrance to a building and passage through control areas – persons with mobility impairment may enter the building through a separate door located on the front wall of the building. The door is equipped with access control system and video monitoring and is automatically opened by the security employee following a signal from the external button. The door can also be operated by the person with disability if he/she possesses an access card or a remote control. The entrance may be accessed via the parking lot and the basement with the use of a ramp with a slight, standard tilt angle.
  • Accessibility of corridors, stairs and elevators – corridors, staircases and elevators are accessible to all users. An elevator with adjusted size of the cabin is made available to persons with mobility impairment. The elevator stops on all floors where research and didactic activities take place and where services are provided. Persons using a wheelchair, having entered the building through the designated entrance located on the level of the basement may use the above-mentioned elevator to access all floors from -1 to 5 and moving further along the corridor, access all rooms and offices. Persons using a wheelchair may come across level differences on the ground floor and 5th floor, which can be tackled with the use of a platform and a ramp.
  • Types of adjustments inside the building – the ground floor and 5th floor are equipped with two wheelchair platforms which enable persons moving in wheelchairs to independently tackle the level differences on the corridors (3 stairs). The platforms may be operated by persons with disabilities themselves as well as by the maintenance technicians who may be called via intercom. On the premises there are 8 toilets adjusted to the needs of persons with disabilities, one per each floor (and two on the ground floor). The toilets are additionally equipped with a paging system used in cases of emergency. There are two passengers’ elevators operating in the building. Their external and internal control panels are equipped with tactile information prepared in Braille’s alphabet intended for the use of persons with visual disabilities.
  • Parking places designated for persons with disabilities and their use – there is a parking lot located in front of the building (plac Sejmu Śląskiego) designated for the faculty employees, with 19 parking places accessible by folding lockable parking posts. The keys to each of the parking places are available at the gate-house. Additionally, there is one restricted parking place for persons with disabilities located in direct vicinity of the entrance for these persons.  This parking place ensures free access via one-way road from ulica Jagiellońska.  Opposite the one-way road located alongside the building one may access a municipal parking lot with numerous parking places.
  • Admission with assistance dog – it is possible to enter the premises with an assistance dog or a guide dog.
  • Sing language interpreter – we do not provide services of sign language interpreters nor on-line interpreter’s services on the premises. The necessity of assistance of a sign language interpreter should be declared 3 days prior to the anticipated visit at the latest at: dostepnosc@us.edu.pl.

 

Katowice, Bankowa 11

  • Accessibility of the entrance to a building and passage through control areas – the main entrance to the building is located at ul. Bankowa 11 and is equipped with four independent doors. The entrance is located on the Western part. At the main entrance platforms for persons with disabilities are located in order to solve the problem of the level differences. The gate-house, which additionally serves as the information point, is located at the entrance. Access control for the evacuation doors has been installed on the premises. The door can be opened with magnetic cards only by authorized employees. Other persons may open the door from the inside only in case of emergency (fire, explosion, evacuation etc.) pressing the buttons installed next to the door wings. In order to do gain access to the buttons, a glass panel has to be broken. Access control is also installed at the external elevator whose cabin door leads directly to the building (the corridor on the ground floor). The access to the cabin door is granted only to authorized personnel. Other persons may gain access to the premises through the entrance between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. calling the assistance with the button located by the elevator or calling 32 359-1108. The employees and students with physical disability may obtain a card issued for a specified period of time in the dean’s office, room no 7, which provides services for students with disabilities and special needs (phone: 32 359-1807) or from the Administrator of the facility at 410 A Bankowa 14, (phone 32 359-1179 or 502-622-988).
  • Accessibility of corridors, stairs and elevators – the corridors on the premises guarantee free movement of persons. Their width is adjusted for the purposes of safe movement of both pedestrians and persons moving in a wheelchair. There are no level differences in the passageways. Platforms for persons with disabilities have been installed by the conference rooms as well as in the main entrance zone in the vicinity of the stairs. The ground floor: the corridor leading to the lecture hall, lecturers’ offices, cloak room and the cafeteria may be accessed directly via the ground floor using the external elevator facing the Centre for Scientific Information and Academic Library (the Eastern part of the building). It is recommended to use the external elevator in order to access this floor. It is also possible to access the compartments located on the ground floor from the level of the main entrance. However, due to the necessity of using several platforms and the elevator at the same time, this mode of access is not recommended. Ground floor may be accessed from the main entrance using the platforms for persons with disabilities. It is possible to access the Student Service Center using the external elevator facing the Centre for Scientific Information and Academic Library. 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor: access is possible via the main entrance using the platforms for persons with disabilities and the internal passengers’ elevator (currently under renovation). It is also possible to use the external elevator. 4th floor: access is possible via the main entrance using the platform for persons with disabilities and the internal lift (currently under renovation). In order to gain access to the conference room III on the 4th floor it is necessary to head towards the right entrance and use the ramp for persons with disabilities.

The building is equipped with four independent staircases. In order to exit the premises, one should head along the internal staircases leading to the main entrance. The external staircases lead to the evacuation exits and enable to move between the floors. In order to access the conference room III on the 5th floor one should head along the internal staircase in “A” segment”. The stairs are equipped with railings and handrails.

The building is equipped with two passengers’ elevators (both internal and external) and 6 platforms for persons with disabilities – passengers’ internal elevator freely accessible: access via the main entrance to the building. Available on the ground, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors (currently under renovation) – passengers’ external elevator: access from the eastern side of the building (Centre for Scientific Information and Academic Library). Operated with a magnetic card which may be obtained in the dean’s office, room 7, providing assistance for students with disabilities and special needs, (phone 32 359-1807) or from the Administrator of the facility at 410 A Bankowa 14, (phone 32 359-1179 or 502-622-988). The external platform at the right main entrance is operated by the security employees. Assistance is called with the button located on the right side of the elevator (level “0”) or by telephone no: 32 359-1108. – the internal platforms on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors are operated by the security employees.

  • Types of adjustments inside the building – there are elevators and platforms for persons with disabilities. The telephones for persons with disabilities allowing them to contact the security are located on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd They may be used in case of emergency. The building is equipped with sanitary facilities adjusted for persons with disabilities. The sanitary facilities are equipped with paging devices.
  • Parking places designated for persons with disabilities and their use – there are two parking spaces designated for persons with disabilities on the eastern side of the building. The access to the parking lot is possible following prior notification of the security, telephone no: 32 359-1108. It is also possible to obtain a remote control operating the barrier in the dean’s office, room no 7, providing assistance to students with disabilities and special needs, (phone 32 359-1807) or from the Administrator of the facility at 410 A Bankowa 14, (phone 32 359-1179 or 502-622-988). There are free parking spaces for persons with disabilities by the building (access via ul. Uniwersytecka).
  • Admission with assistance dog – it is possible to enter the premises with an assistance dog or a guide dog.
  • Sing language interpreter – we do not provide services of sign language interpreters nor on-line interpreter’s services on the premises. Sosnowiec, Grota Roweckiego 5

  • Accessibility of the entrance to a building and passage through control areas – entrance to the ground floor of the building from the ground level parking lot via a slanted platform located alongside the stairs equipped with protective handrails, to be self-operated by persons with disabilities. Entrance to the library and dean’s office from the ground level parking lot via a wheelchair ramp with handrails. Entrance to the ground level of the building from the underground parking lot via the entrance to the building, without curbstone. The door opens to the inside, the width: 90 cm with a handle located at the height of the arm of persons with disabilities. All entrances designated for persons with disabilities marked graphically with signs indicating direction.
  • Accessibility of corridors, stairs and elevators – passageways and lecture halls are accessible on all floors – their width is adjusted in order to enable a free passage of persons with and without disabilities. Staircases are accessible to all users. Passengers’ lifts accessible to all users, adjusted to the needs of persons with mobility impairment, stopping on all floors. One of the cabins of passengers’ lift is adjusted in size for persons with disabilities moving in a wheelchair. Cabins of the lifts – equipped with mirrors located on the wall facing the entrance enabling a person with disabilities to verify whether there are no obstacles behind their back and whether he/she may safely leave the cabin. Floor buttons in the lift cabins provide information on the floor numbers in Braille’s alphabet. The control elements inside the cabin and the external paging button are located on the arm level of a person moving in a wheelchair. The lifts’ door opens and closes automatically and is equipped with a detector blocking the door closure even before the physical contact with an object or a person. The lifts are equipped with audio signals providing information on the cabin’s location.
  • Types of adjustments inside the building – there are 5 toilets designated for persons with disabilities equipped with a paging system. All floors contain a map of the building located by the entrances to the elevators. The maps include the “you are here” information.
  • Parking places designated for persons with disabilities and their use – the ground level parking lot in front of the building is freely accessible – there are 3 designated parking places for persons with disabilities marked with a vertical and horizontal sign (“an envelope” painted in blue). A convenient access to the parking lot is via ul. Orla. The underground parking lot is equipped with control of access in form of an entrance and exit barrier – there is one parking place designated for persons with disabilities marked horizontally in blue. Access to the parking lot is granted by the security employee on the basis of cards authorizing the owners to park on places designated for persons with disabilities. Convenient access to the underground parking lot via ulica Grota-Roweckiego. There are signs by the entrances to the parking lots directing to the parking places for persons with disabilities.

  • Accessibility of the entrance to a building and passage through control areas – the main entrance is accessible for persons with disabilities via a wheelchair ramp. The doormats located at the entrance to the building allow the access of wheelchairs and the size of the holes in the mat is appropriate for the size of the wheel and the size of the canes used by persons with visual disabilities.
  • Accessibility of corridors, stairs and elevators – persons with disabilities have at their disposal the main lecture hall of the building as well as corridors and toilets located on the ground floor.
  • Parking places designated for persons with disabilities and their use – no designated parking places.
  • Admission with assistance dog – it is possible to enter the premises with an assistance dog or a guide dog.
