Find the supervisor
The University of Silesia in Katowice is a unique place, mainly because of the people who work here. If you have chosen it for your academic career, you should first find people to work with.
You may have already worked with a researcher from our university who now invites you to cooperate, or you are applying for a specific grant project. If this is the case, this stage is already behind you. If not, then start your search.
If you already know who you want to work with because you know the researcher you have met before or you have read their publications, please contact this person. Each researcher at the University of Silesia has an official email, which you can find by typing their name and surname in the form https://ab.us.edu.pl/site/. Introduce yourself, write something about your education and scientific experience, and then explain what you would like to do and why you have chosen this person.
Check the offer of grant projects we are currently recruiting for at https://us.edu.pl/szkola-doktorska/en/informacje-o-otwartych-naborach-na-miejsca-stypendialne-w-ramach-grantow-i-programow-stypendialnych/. This is a separate admission process route that you can also use.
Some researchers work independently, especially in the humanities and social sciences. In other research disciplines, teamwork is fundamental. We are now preparing the index of all research teams and independent researchers. Before it is ready, look for the information:
- about research teams on the websites of the institutes: https://us.edu.pl/en/uczelnia/struktura/ (unfortunately, some are only in Polish)
- about researchers in our address book https://ab.us.edu.pl/site/index?lang=en, but this time type name of a discipline (remember to do it precisely, for example “information and communication technology” not “IT” – list of disciplines you may find here: https://us.edu.pl/szkola-doktorska/en/szkola-doktorska-w-uniwersytecie-slaskim/).
If you have difficulty finding the right person yourself, you can write to one of our coordinators: https://us.edu.pl/szkola-doktorska/en/86-2/. They will tell you who to contact if the relevant researcher is at our university. Remember, however, that you may have to wait a few days for an answer.
