recruitment for the recruitment for the program to support the publication of research results in international journals for doctoral students

 

Information about recruitment

Call period: from 4.11.2024 at 11:00 a.m. until the funds are exhausted or until the end of the project. The project manager may temporarily stop the program, especially if the funds for a current year are exhausted.

Subject of recruitment

Support for the publication of research results by doctoral students in international journals in the form of proofreading of prepared publications, as well as co-financing of publishing costs.

Who can apply for support?

A person who has the status of a doctoral student at one of the doctoral schools at the University of Silesia in Katowice can apply for support. The support will be granted if the following conditions are met:

  1. When applying for proofreading of publications:
    1. The doctoral student is the first or only author of the article to which the support relates.
    2. In the publication, the doctoral student will use the affiliation of the University of Silesia.
    3. The article is ready to be sent for proofreading,
    4. The article is prepared for publication in a scientific journal of international reach and reputation, included in the list of scientific journals and peer-reviewed materials from international conferences, and is assigned to:
      • at least 140 points in the case of doctoral students in disciplines belonging to the field of exact and natural sciences as well as engineering and technical sciences
      • at least 70 credits for doctoral students in the disciplines belonging to the field of social sciences, the field of humanities and the field of theological sciences.
    5. The planned proofreading meets the conditions for a given journal, if specified.
    6. The application will be positively assessed by the doctoral student’s supervisor.
    7. The project team appointed by the Project Manager will give a positive opinion on the application for funding.
  2. In the case of applying for co-financing of publication costs:
    1. The doctoral student is the first or only author of the article to which the support relates.
    2. In the publication, the doctoral student will use the affiliation of the University of Silesia.
    3. The article is prepared to be submitted to the journal for editorial review.
    4. The journal for which the article is prepared is a scientific journal with an international reach and reputation, included in the list of scientific journals and peer-reviewed materials from the international conference, and is assigned to:
      • at least 140 points in the case of doctoral students in disciplines belonging to the field of exact and natural sciences as well as engineering and technical sciences
      • at least 70 credits for doctoral students in the disciplines belonging to the field of social sciences, the field of humanities and the field of theological sciences.
    5. The application will be positively assessed by the doctoral student’s supervisor.
    6. The project team appointed by the Project Manager will give a positive opinion on the application for funding.

Evaluation criteria

The project team appointed by the Project Manager takes into account the following criteria when giving its opinion on the application:

  • reputation and international reach of the journal,
  • the potential impact of the publication on the development of the discipline,
  • the relationship between the publication and the doctoral dissertation being prepared,
  • financial capabilities of the project.

The project provides support for the publication by co-financing 30 publications in the form of proofreading and for 15 publications in the form of Open Access funding or publication costs.

Funds in the amount of PLN 1000 will be granted to finance proofreading – with the possibility of increasing in the event of savings in the project.

Funds for financing Open Access or publication costs will be granted on the basis of the presented cost estimate, with the average cost of publication being PLN 8859. In the case of costs estimates exceeding this amount, the Project Manager may award a partial financing.

Before submitting an application, please read the detailed rules described in the Regulations for supporting doctoral students in the field of publication of research results in international journals, which is attached to the Ordinance No. 152/2024 of the Rector of the University of Silesia in Katowice (in Polish, translation into English: STER_regulations_for_support_publication_process_eng).
