In July 2025, the first water environment monitoring campaign of the CRossWATER project took place in Zgorzelec and Görlitz. With the support of the water supply companies from Görlitz and Zgorzelec, groundwater samples were collected from 40 locations, along with river water samples from the Lusatian Neisse and Czerwona Woda. Fieldwork also included measurements of groundwater levels and river flows. The samples will undergo comprehensive chemical analysis at the laboratories of the TU Dresden. Geophysical surveys were also carried out on the Polish side.

The campaign provided new data on the relationships between surface water and groundwater, revealing the spatial variability of hydrogeological and hydrochemical processes. This will make it possible to better understand regional groundwater flow and to plan further monitoring.

The Polish side was represented by hydrogeologists from the Institute of Earth Sciences, University of Silesia in Katowice.
