The Institute of Earth Sciences at the University of Silesia is strengthening its position in international research in the field of Earth and Life Sciences, as confirmed by recent global rankings.

In the CWTS Leiden Ranking 2025 for the Earth Sciences discipline at the University of Silesia, the following results were achieved in Life & Earth Sciences: 423 publications were produced, of which 2 publications are in the top 1% most cited worldwide, 11 publications in the top 5%, and 24 publications in the top 10%. Additionally, 166 publications are in the top 50% most cited. This means that 5.7% of publications are in the top 10%, and 39.3% in the top 50%. The total number of citations (TCS) is 2683, with a mean citation score (MCS) of 6.34 per publication. Normalized citations (TNCS), adjusted for field and year, total 304, with a mean normalized citation score (MNCS) of 0.72.

In the ISC World University Rankings by Subject 2024, the Earth Sciences discipline at the University of Silesia ranked 6th in Poland. Globally, the discipline falls in the 601–700 group, with the following indicators: Research: 64.2, International Activity: 15.24, and an overall world ranking position of 605. It is also worth noting that the Earth Sciences discipline at the University of Silesia is one of only two disciplines represented in the ISC by Subject ranking in 2024. The other is Languages & Literature.
