Gábor Mélypataki, PhD, Associate Professor, has been at the Department of Agricultural and Labour Law, Faculty of Law, University of Miskolc, Hungary, since September 2012.

He graduated in law from the University of Miskolc in 2009. Afterward, he joined the institution mentioned above as a PhD student and then as a full-time lecturer. Since the beginning, his research has focused on the legal relations of civil service law from the perspective of labour law.

He examines the directions and possibilities of this, considering the constantly changing legislative tendencies and will. In addition to the above-mentioned thematic areas, digitalization, the gig economy, artificial intelligence, and the impact of the green transition and climate change on labour law play a key role in his current research.

Join us for fascinating lecture provided by Dr Mélypataki „The visible and the invisible labour in the mirror of pay transparency”:

„The principle of equal pay for equal work is one of the most important principles of equality in labour law. In practice, however, a significant pay gap remains. This is why the issue of pay inequality is a constant topic of discussion. The European Union is also constantly striving to reduce the gender pay gap. Recently, more legislation has been adopted to achieve this goal. The principles and objectives are clear. However, most often, the problems arise during implementation. The first question is how enthusiastic a Member State is about implementation. The second question is, how much does it mould it in its image?”

To a considerable extent, it is the women’s policy of the Member State that influences it! How motivated is it to tackle the pay gap? How motivated is she to make invisible work visible? What we see in statistics is always calculated based on visible incomes. However, a large proportion of women also perform a significant amount of invisible work that does not appear in the statistics.

The lecture will take place on June 12, 2025, 9.45-11.15, room no. 3.46.
