The University of Silesia Inter-Faculty Research Group of Chinese Culture and Law is pleased to invite everyone interested in the People’s Republic of China to a lecture in the series of online courses on selected issues in Chinese culture and the legal system.

Lecture entitled „Senses Of Home in Beijing” will be held via the ZOOM platform on Thursday, April 8, at 20:00

The lecture will be led by Iris Maher.

Iris Maher is an anthropologist currently working towards her PhD in the Emerging Technologies Lab. Her research examines themes of mobility, conceptions of place and space, and emerging forms of transport. For her MA she conducted fieldwork in Beijing on 'Senses of Home’. Prior to this she completed a BA Criminology at UCC having conducted a digital ethnography looking at the phenomenon of 'Lifters’.

Introduction to Lecture: Senses of Home in Beijing

This lecture offers a brief introduction to anthropology and ethnographic research. It looks at Iris Maher’s ethnographic field report in Beijing on „Senses of Home”, and the problems encountered during fieldwork. This lecture uses that fieldwork to open a discussion about the unexpected findings in research.
