On 10 October 2020 Assoc. Prof. Urszula Myga-Piątek, Professor of the University of Silesia, has been selected the Chair of Polish Geographical Society, the biggest scientific and professional organisation of geographers for the term 2020–2024. Assoc. Prof. Urszula Myga-Piątek is the second woman in this position during over 100 years of the society’s history. Until now she has been the Deputy Chair of the Polish Geographical Society, and one of the main organisers of the 100th anniversary of Polish Geographical Society and Polish Geography Year 2018. She has also been a member of the Commission of the Cultural Landscape at the Polish Geographical Society and its chair for four terms (2002-2018). Assoc. Prof. Urszula Myga-Piątek, Professor of the University of Silesia, also performs the function of Deputy Dean for Education and Students at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Silesia.
Polish Geographical Society plays an important role in the scientific, cultural and social life both in Poland and in the world. The Chair of Polish Geographical Society in 2002-2006 was Prof. Andrzej Tadeusz Jankowski, an eminent professor of the University of Silesia, geographer and hydrologist.
