In the latest edition of the Web of Universities (Webometrics) Ranking, the University of Silesia in Katowice took a position higher than last year. The university has improved its results both nationally and internationally.
The ranking included over 31 thousand institutions related to higher education from around the world, including almost 400 institutions from Poland. In our country, the university took 15th place. It is an advancement of one place compared to the previous edition of the ranking. Among universities from the Silesian Voivodeship, the university of Silesia was ranked 2nd. In the global ranking, our university advanced by seventeen positions, taking 1123rd place (a year ago it was ranked 1140th). Compared to the previous edition, the University of Silesia improved the results of two out of three indicators used in the ranking to measure the number of citations: Transparency and Excellence. This is another advancement of our university in national and international rankings of higher education institutions.
The Webometrics ranking has been published since 2004 (twice a year) by the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC) – the Supreme Council of Scientific Research in Madrid. Its main goal is to promote the presence of academic and research institutions on the Internet and to support all types of open accessprojects.
