The University of Silesia in Katowice was ranked 1st among Silesian universities in the overall ranking of the Nature Index Annual Tables 2023. We also took the highest place in the region in terms of the following disciplines: chemical sciences, earth and environmental sciences, physical sciences, and in the journal group ranking in the categories: natural sciences and nature & science. In the case of biological sciences, only the Silesian University of Technology is ahead of us, while in health sciences we are ahead of the Medical University of Silesia and the Silesian University of Technology.
Nationally, our university ranked 7th in the overall ranking. In the field of physical sciences, we moved up to 5th place (from 12th place).
The Nature Index is an open database of author affiliations and institutional relationships that continuously monitors scientific articles in exact sciences, natural sciences, and health sciences published in prestigious journals selected by an independent group of researchers. The Nature Index Annual Tables 2023 takes into consideration the period from 1 January to 31 December 2022. The ranking is available at www.nature.com.
