Three representatives of the University of Silesia in Katowice: Adam Wojtaszek, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof., Ewa Gumul, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof., and Paweł Zakrajewski, PhD from the Institute of Linguistics of the University of Silesia visited the Northeastern University in Shenyang in China. They were invited to deliver several guest lectures and plenary talks at the ‘Language Data Research Forum’ organised by the Chinese university.
The visit of the representatives of the University of Silesia allowed for strengthening of the cooperation between universities and defining new areas of joint activities, which have been coordinated for many years by Adam Wojtaszek, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof. During the meeting, the agreement on a double Master’s degree was renewed. For five years, this type of cooperation has allowed Chinese and Polish students to obtain diplomas from both partner universities. It was also an opportunity to establish research cooperation with Chinese researchers.
The group of University of Silesia delegates also participated in the celebration of the centenary of the Northeastern University’s founding. Moreover, Adam Wojtaszek, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof. took part in the 3rd International Forum on Industrial and Economic Cooperation organised in Chongqing, during which he delivered a plenary talk on academic cooperation between Polish and Chinese universities. One of the main organisers of the forum was Chongqing Jiaotong University, the university with which the University of Silesia has recently signed a cooperation letter of intent. Thanks to this agreement, the Silesian Alma Mater receives support in teaching Chinese, mainly in its specialised varieties.
