On 21–24 May 2025, the student team of the University of Silesia in Katowice represented the university in the world finals of the Odyssey of the Mind competition, which took place at Michigan State University in East Lansing (USA).
The team consisted of students of the Faculty of Social Sciences: Sara Piątek, Barbara Górecka, Monika Ziętek, Julia Stachura, Natalia Uchyła and Julia Dziadek. Team supervisors were Magdalena Christ, PhD, Assoc. Prof., and Klaudia Nowak, MA.
During the final, the team tackled a so-called spontaneous problem—a task the content of which they learned only after entering the competition room. They also presented their solution to a long-term problem entitled ‘AstronOMical Odyssey!’ in the ‘Performance’ category, all that in front of an international jury and audience.
Thanks to their excellent performance and high score, the team won first place in the fourth age category in the fifth long-term problem.
Being part of the Odyssey of the Mind competition does not only provide an opportunity for intellectual rivalry, but it also gives participants a unique chance to develop key competences such as cooperation, communication and critical thinking skills, as well as the opportunity to establish international contacts and exchange experiences with participants from all over the world.
Congratulations to the USil team on their success!
