About

Open Science Community Silesia (OSCS) is a collaborative network of researchers, PhD students and librarians based at the University of Silesia, dedicated to promoting transparency, reliability, accessibility, and collaboration in research. The mission of the OSCS group is to embed FAIR principles and the idea of open science into the regional academic culture while supporting researchers, students, and professionals from all disciplines in adopting practices that leverage knowledge for social good.

Through interdisciplinary workshops and public lectures, OSCS will equip its members with the tools and practical knowledge necessary to implement best practices in managing and sharing research data. The OSCS community will place great emphasis on implementing FAIR principles, ensuring that research data is findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable.

OSCS values inclusiveness above all, encouraging participation from diverse groups, including early-stage researchers, experienced researchers, librarians, and local communities. It provides a platform for networking, mentoring, and knowledge sharing, promoting a collaborative spirit that transcends institutional and disciplinary boundaries.

The ultimate goal of the community is to establish Silesia as a center of excellence in Open Science, where research not only benefits researchers but also contributes to improving the quality of life of the region’s inhabitants. By championing openness and mutual respect, OSCS aims to drive meaningful change, making science accessible and impactful for all.
