The 27th Academic Concert

On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the founding of the University of Silesia, on Friday, 16 June 2023, ‘The World of Kilar – inspirations, sources’ academic concert was held. The event took place in the concert hall of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice.

During the concert, new interpretations of the composer’s works were presented, as well as contemporary pieces bordering on classical music and jazz inspired by his pieces. The performers were artists from the Institute of Music of the University of Silesia in Katowice and invited guests. References to the sources were illustrated by the performance of a student band presenting Carpathian musical folklore. The authors of the visualisation were students from the Institute of Fine Arts of the University of Silesia.

The ‘Pro Scientia et Arte’ awards were given to: Prof. Jarosław Polański in the exact and natural sciences category and Prof. Jerzy Łukaszewicz in the humanities, social sciences, theological sciences and art category. In addition, Prof. Jerzy Łukaszewicz gave a lecture “Kilka uwag w kwestii prawdy artystycznej” [A few remarks on the artistic truth].

The official part of the concert was led by: Lidia Le Thanh, student of the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia and Jakub Kraus, student of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Silesia. The artistic part was led by Robert Talarczyk, Director of Silesian Theatre in Katowice.
