The 6th seminar on a new concept of studies at the University of Silesia will take place in the Scientific Information Centre and Academic Library (CINiBA).
The guest lecture will be delivered by Prof. Pedro Russo, Professor in Science & Society at Leiden University, the Netherlands, where he leads the Astronomy&Society Group. Prof. Russo was the global coordinator for the United Nation’s International Year of Astronomy 2009. Pedro obtained his University degree in applied mathematics, physics and astronomy from the University of Porto, Portugal. Pedro was a research fellow at the Max Plank Institute for Solar System Research in Germany. Pedro is involved with several international organisations, like the International Astronomical Union, European Astronomical Society and the International Astronautical Federation. Pedro is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Portuguese National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture. His work has received several awards, such as Seeds Special Award 2009, Scientix Best Educational Resource in 2015 and 2016, Most Innovative Educational Activities in 2017 and 2018 by HundrED, 2018 Leiden University’s K.J. Cath Prize, the first-ever Science Communication Award by NWO-Dutch Research Funding Agency in 2019 and the 2021 Science Medal by the Portuguese Government.
The lecture will take place on 4 May 2022 at 4.00 p.m. in the CINiBA building (in conference room No. 016, level 0, main hall).
