Dear runners and enthusiasts of health-related campaigns! We are pleased to invite you to the unique opportunity to take part in the race organized as part of the European City of Science Katowice 2024. The motto is ‘I’m running for health, according to 7 rules on how to live to avoid viruses’!

The run will take place virtually: “everyone runs, walks or walks with poles wherever they can” at a distance of their choice: 3, 7 or 10 km. Our goal is, among other things, to promote physical activity, healthy eating and broadly understood prevention.

The aim of the campaign is to promote 7 rules on how to live to avoid viruses, including the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, encouraging physical activity and cancer prevention. Part of the funds collected from entry fees will be donated to the preventive activities of the Oko w Oko z Rakiem Foundation!

PRIZE

Each participant who provides their shipping details will receive a unique commemorative medal! (We will start shipping medals on April 22)

To receive the medal, you must pay an entry fee of 55 PLN to the Foundation’s bank account. We do not require confirmation of the declared distance.

The Medical University of Silesia and the Faculty of Health Sciences in Zabrze invite you to a conference on viruses and their impact on our lives.

Everyone interested is welcome to take part in the event. The aim of the ‘Viruses in Our Lives’ Conference is to familiarize people with topics related to viruses. Renowned professors, epidemiologists and infectious disease specialists will answer important questions about the risk of another pandemic, the laws governing viruses, the impact of stress on susceptibility to infections, and practical issues related to flu and vaccinations for children.  Our foreign guest, Professor Didier Raoult, recognized by the journal Nature as one of the 10 most influential scientists in the field of infectious diseases, will help us unravel the truth and myths about vaccinations. By spreading scientific knowledge, we want to fight the widespread infodemic, i.e. the abundance of false information regarding viral diseases, and thus reduce the level of social anxiety related to viruses by promoting effective prevention methods.

The lecture will be held by Prof. Jadwiga Jośko-Ochojska, MD, PhD from the Department of Medicine and Epidemiology of the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice.

The online lecture will be given by Prof. Dider Raoult, Director of the University Hospital and Center for Research on New Infectious and Tropical Diseases (URMITE), Marseille, France.

The lecture will be given by Brygida Adamek, MD, DSc, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Public Health in Bytom.

The discussion will be held by Prof. Maria Szczepańska, MD, PhD, from the Department and Clinic of Pediatrics, Medical University of Silesia in Katowice.

The presentation will be given by Janusz Kasperczyk, MD, DSc, from the Department of Medicine and Epidemiology of the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice.

ON-LINE educational campaign:

• CHILDHOOD DISEASES – A series of posts on Facebook addressed to the general population, aimed at educating about childhood diseases.
• VIRAL CAMPAIGN PROMOTING HEALTH: GOLDEN 7 – HOW SHOULD WE LIVE TO NOT FALL PREY TO VIRUSES? RULE #1: GET VACCINATED!” – A campaign addressed to the general population, promoting a healthy lifestyle and virus prevention, implemented via Facebook posts and online events.

• 10.00 a.m. – 2.00 p.m. – A game on health and virus-related topics for high school students only (Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze, Zabrze-Rokitnica Campus, ul. Jordana 19)

The field game, which will take place on the campus of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze, is aimed at practicing skills in antiviral prevention (in accordance with the 7 principles of fighting viruses), first aid, and getting to know in practice the methods of action during accidents.  We invite high school students (especially those with a biological and chemical profile) to take part in the run. Participants will be divided into teams of 4-5 people.

• 10.00 a.m. – 2.00 p.m. – Open Day of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology (Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Zabrze-Rokitnica, ul. Jordana 19)

The Open Day of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze is a unique opportunity for 7th and 8th grade primary school students to learn about the fascinating world of microbiology and immunology.

Would you like to learn how to effectively fight viruses nowadays? Are you curious what work in the laboratory is like? Or maybe you are wondering whether it is worth continuing your development in the area of natural and medical sciences?

If so, this open day is just for you!

We will start our meeting with a lecture entitled: ‘Let’s face our opponents – what should we know about viruses’. Young people will learn what a virus particle is made of, what the beginnings of scientific research on the structure of pathogens were like, who contributed most to the development of virology, and when humanity first saw a virus. The concept of ‘contagium vivum fluidum’ will no longer be foreign to listeners.

• HEALTH PROMOTING CAMPAIGN: ‘GOLDEN 7 – HOW SHOULD WE LIVE TO NOT FALL PREY TO VIRUSES? RULE #3: BE HYGENIC!’ – A campaign focused on promoting good hygiene practices as a key element of protection against viruses and other pathogens.

• 10.00 a.m. – 2.00 p.m. – Inter-university Forum of Young Scientists Viruses in Our Lives II (Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze, ul. Jordana 19, Lecture Hall, yellow building)

An interdisciplinary conference focusing on the exchange of scientific views and work in the area of medical and non-medical aspects of viral diseases. The event is addressed to students, PhD students and interns from university scientific clubs interested in development in the field of natural and medical sciences.

• HUMAN IMMUNE DEFICIENCY VIRUS (HIV) – An educational series of materials about HIV, its impact on the human body and ways to prevent infection.
• HEALTH PROMOTING CAMPAIGN: ‘GOLDEN 7 – HOW SHOULD WE LIVE TO NOT FALL PREY TO VIRUSES? RULE #4: DO NOT SMOKE AND LIMIT ALCOHOL!’ – A campaign focused on promoting a healthy lifestyle, with an emphasis on avoiding smoking and limiting alcohol consumption as key elements of protection against viruses and other health threats.

• 5.30–7.00 p.m. – Official screening of the film STOP HPV Campaign (Kato Science Corner, Katowice, ul. Młyńska 2)

Film with the participation of prof. Zenon Czuba, oncologist Katarzyna Kryszczyszyn-Musialik, MD and gynecologist Karina Barszczewska, MD (Medicine on high heels), as well as with the participation of medical students of the Medical University of Silesia.

• HUMAN PAPTIOMA VIRUS (HPV) – A series of educational materials designed to increase awareness of the human papillomavirus and its effects.
• HEALTH PROMOTING CAMPAIGN: ‘GOLDEN 7 – HOW SHOULD WE LIVE TO NOT FALL PREY TO VIRUSES? RULE #5: CONTROL YOUR STRESS!’ – A campaign to promote a healthy lifestyle, with particular emphasis on stress management as a method of protection against disease.

• 1:00 p.m. (start) – Run ‘I’m running for health, according to 7 rules on how to live to avoid viruses’! (Silesian Park at gate No. 1 of the Silesian Stadium) 

Dear runners and enthusiasts of health-related campaigns! We are pleased to invite you to the unique opportunity to take part in the race organized as part of the European City of Science Katowice 2024. The motto is ‘I’m running for health’.

The race will take place in the Silesian Park, over a distance of 7 km (MAP) Runners from a given university will run in teams of 7, with each runner covering 1 km of the route and passes the baton to the next runner (relay).

Our goal is, among other things, to promote physical activity, healthy eating and broadly understood prevention. During the event, donations will be collected at the competition office for the activities of the Oko w oko z Rakem Foundation, some of which will be donated to screening for cervical cancer using liquid cytology!

Conditions: Only adults can take part in the race. By registering and taking part in the race, competitors declare that they are taking part in the race at their own risk.

Each competitor taking part in the “I run for health” race must be verified at the race office by presenting a photo ID and signing the registration form.

It is forbidden to shorten the race route.

• HEALTH PROMOTING CAMPAIGN: ‘GOLDEN 7 – HOW SHOULD WE LIVE TO NOT FALL PREY TO VIRUSES? RULE #6: BE ACTIVE!’ – A campaign encouraging regular physical activity as a way to improve immunity and overall well-being, a key element of a healthy lifestyle.

• 5.30–6.30 p.m. – Sunday clinic – health education for seniors (Kato Science Corner, Katowice ul. Młyńska 2)

Keeping in mind, that during the Covid-19 pandemic, older and sick people were most exposed to serious complications related to SARS-CoV-2 virus infection, we aim to promote all forms of prevention in the senior group.  Starting with healthy eating, regular physical activity, coping with stress, and ending with regular check-ups and vaccinations.

An event addressed to seniors, aimed at health education and promotion of sickness prevention. Lectures by specialists and students will focus on 7 rules ‘How to live to avoid viruses!’

The event will be held by: Katarzyna Antoniak–Sobczak, MD; Helena Lesz–Przybył, MD and Eliza Cieślikowska, MA (psychologist).

ON-LINE educational campaign:

• EDUCATIONAL CAMPAIGN: FLU – Education about flu, its prevention and treatment, addressed to the general public to increase awareness of this disease and its prevention.
• HEALTH PROMOTING CAMPAIGN: ‘GOLDEN 7 – HOW SHOULD WE LIVE TO NOT FALL PREY TO VIRUSES? RULE #7: SIGN UP FOR REGULAR CHECK-UPS!’ – A campaign promoting regular medical examinations as a key element of health prevention and early detection of diseases.
