New Studies in Field of Arts within Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters

The University of Silesia plans to launch an international 2nd cycle studies in Digital Creativity Art & Science European Master (DIGICREA); the degree programme is financed by the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters.

The degree programme is addressed to candidates whose artistic creativity is not limited to contemporary professions but may go beyond the all-known limits of the arts in terms of creating audio-visual content. The Erasmus Mundus programme provides a monthly scholarship of €1,400 throughout the entire course of studies for an average of 75% of students.

Project Implementation

The project is coordinated by Adrian Robak, PhD, Assoc. Prof., and will be launched on 1 October 2024; it is planned for a period of 6 years. Its activities are focused on international cooperation with two partner universities from the Transform4Europe Alliance: Jean Monnet University (partnership leader) and Universidade Católica Portuguesa (partner). The total budget for the project is €3,777,600.

Project Description

The international 2nd cycle studies in Digital Creativity Art & Science has been created as a response to the growing need for interdisciplinary knowledge in terms of creating audio-visual content. The initiative aims to study future manners for narrative and technology in interactive arts, films, games, and augmented reality and anticipate their various applications in the arts, entertainment, business, education, tourism, social issues, communication and tools for medical therapy.

Curriculum

The two-year degree programme covering a total of 120 ECTS credits will be implemented at partner institutes: Jean Monnet University (France), Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Porto, Portugal) and the University of Silesia (Poland). Students will spend the last semester in the location they select themselves. The curriculum covers foundation and specialist courses and mandatory mobility, it will be carried out in English.

Innovative Teaching Methods

Teaching within the DIGICREA is focused on cooperation between students, thus creating interdisciplinary teams that implement audio-visual works. Its key components include:

  • Artistic and production groups: assembling supervised groups to explain each student’s input..
  • Practical and integrating activities with the current technology: involving students in practical work using the latest technologies and modern equipment.
  • Industry-specific collaboration: establishing collaboration with companies and institutions to get insights into the world market, e.g. thanks to the collaboration with Ubisoft, Cycling74, Netflix and production companies.

Application of Augmented and Virtual Realities

The curriculum prepares students to apply augmented and virtual realities in various sectors. During particular semesters, students will combine acquiring theoretical knowledge with honing their practical skills. During subsequent semesters, students will deepen their knowledge in terms of audio, image, and film production, as well as video games, composition, studio techniques, multimedia, animations, and IT and AI elements applied in the arts.
