Winners of the Pro Scientia et Arte Award

The „Pro Scientia et Arte” Award was established by the Senate of the University of Silesia by the Resolution No. 87 of 5th March 2002 at the request of the then Rector Full Prof. Tadeusz Sławek.
The University of Silesia honours the outstanding scientific and artistic achievements of university employees with the „Pro Scientia et Arte” Award. Two awards can be granted each year – one for the artist or scholar representing the arts and humanities, and the other for the researcher representing the mathematics, natural and technical sciences. Persons with outstanding scientific or artistic achievements who are respected by the academic community can be candidates for the award. Candidates for the award can be reported by teaching and research academics.
The award winners are selected by the Jury appointed by Rector of the University of Silesia. Between 2016 and 2020, the composition of the Jury is as follows: Full Prof. Małgorzata Łuszczak – Chairperson of the Jury, Full Prof. Roman Ger, Full Prof. Janusz Janeczek (Rector of the University of Silesia between 2002 and 2008), Full Prof. Tadeusz Sławek (Rector of the University of Silesia between 1996 and 2002) and Full Prof. Marek S. Szczepański.
The symbol of the „Pro Scientia et Arte” award is a statuette – a bronze sculpture from the „Winged” series, which is the work of Prof. Jan Herma from the Institute of Arts, University of Silesia in Cieszyn, and a diploma printed with a traditional typographic technique on handmade paper. The award is presented during the formal inauguration of the academic year.
